Welsh Crucible 2013
Alastair graduated with an MEng in Mechanical Engineering, and subsequently obtained a PhD in Tribology both from Cardiff University. Following a period as a research associate, Alastair moved to Swansea Metropolitan University where he lectured in Automotive Engineering. He is currently employed as a Lecturer in Tribology and Applied Mechanics in the School of Engineering at Cardiff. His research covers a range of fields, from fundamental studies of the Tribology of gears and bearings, to condition monitoring of rotating machinery. In addition, Alastair has an interest in computational optimisation, using evolutionary algorithms. Alastair has a strong desire to promote engineering as a career choice for young people, and to this end is heavily involved in the activities of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
2016 Update: Alastair continues his role as a Lecturer in the School of Engineering at Cardiff University.
