Emma followed her degree in Applied Biology from the University of the West of England and a PhD in Human Molecular Genetics from the University of Aberdeen, with a substantial period of laboratory based postdoctoral research at Newcastle University. In 2005 she joined the Genomics Policy Unit (U. Glamorgan) to study genetics/genomics within healthcare delivery. As part of the Nursing Professions Programme of the NHS National Genetics Education and Development Centre, this research has focused on the education and training needs of UK nurses and midwives. She has been actively supporting change in professional practice through collaborative resource development including the free, multimedia website Telling Stories, Understanding Real Life Genetics.

2016 Update: Emma continues her role as a Senior Research Fellow at the Faculty of Life Sciences and Education at the University of South Wales.
