Hu joined the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University as a Sêr Cymru Research Fellow in December 2014. Prior to joining Cardiff, he was a Senior Lecturer in Architecture and Energy Simulation at Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development, Oxford Brookes University.

He obtained PhD in 2012 from Northumbria University and BEng from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology in China in 2006. He has worked on 11 research projects on renewable energy, building performance modelling, climate change adaptation of new buildings, innovative refurbishment and building performance evaluation of existing buildings funded by the Innovate UK, EPSRC, Welsh Government and Leverhulme Trust. As the Principal Investigator, he recently secured a 4-yr H2020 project (grant value of €5.99m, €399k for Cardiff) to develop a new modular façade that reduce building energy consumption and harvest energy from renewables.

Hu is extremely keen to develop interdisciplinary research proposals and form new research topics in built environment, energy and climate change.

Hu has been promoted to Senior Research Fellow in the Welsh School of Architecture at Cardiff University.
