Vitae Researcher Development Framework

The Vitae Researcher Development Frameworkprovides a framework of the skills, attributes and behaviours of successful researchers; a tool for self-assessment of strengths and areas for further development; and a common framework across institutions in the UK. You may find the RDF useful for:

  • preparing for one-on-one reviews with your research manager or principal investigator where you will be discussing your professional or career development
  • identifying strengths and areas to focus on
  • prioritising the most appropriate formal and informal development opportunities provided by the institution
  • considering skills and experiences that will enhance your prospects of success in particular career areas.
The Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers

Launched in 2008 the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchersis an agreement between the funders and employers of researchers in the UK regarding the ways in which the careers of researchers should be supported. It provides ‘a single and unambiguous statement of the expectations and responsibilities of researchers, their managers, employers, and funders’.
